Training
Niseko in summer has everything you could possibly ask for in a triathlon training base.
Climate
Hokkaido is one of the cooler spots in Asia but from June to late September the temperatures can reach 30 degrees. The humidity is usually low and there is no wet season of note.
Food
As Hokkaido is the food belt of Japan in summer the farms are in full swing, producing a delicious range of fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood. We have decided not to include any meals in the camp so people can choose themselves from the great selection of restaurants in Niseko, or self-cater in their apartments.
Swim Alpen Hotel Pool
The Alpen Hotel pool is perfect for triathlon training. The water and air temperature are perfect, we have arranged unrestricted access and the use of paddles is permitted. They also have a wet and dry sauna, and a large Jacuzzi to relax post training.
Lake Hangetsu
Located only 5 minutes from the accommodation Hangetsu-ko is a real local secret. A stunning and secluded Lake based at the foot of Mt Yotei (Hokkaido's Mt Fuji that makes a stunning backdrop to Niseko), it is 350metres across. It allows for great short efforts of open water practice with short rests to recover at either end.
Lake Toya
Rated as the fourth cleanest Lake in the World Lake Toya is a 35km ride from Niseko and was the sight of the G8 summit in 2008. We will be using the area for our mini 'races' during the camp.
Cycling
The road cycling in and around Niseko is about as good as cycling gets. Quiet country roads with a great mix of flats, hills and rollers make for a great mix of training rides. Courteous drivers, well maintained wide roads ensure the cycling is very safe.
Running
Niseko has a great mix of trails, asphalt and grass track runs that we utilise during the camp.
